You probably have a nice looking website and that's great - it's an important part of providing a compelling and memorable presence online. A website that looks like it was a first generation site from the 1990's will only make people wonder if you're still in business or are you a strong, growing business that they would be confident dealing with.
But the internet is not a case of 'build it and they will come' and unfortunately most people get a website but no strategy comes along with it. It's not their fault normally either, they were never asked.
So what can you do to turn things around and start making an impact online?
This is the first of a 5 part series on doing just that.
First thing that we do - if at all possible - when we take on a new project is ensure that the client has Google Analytics installed and accessible and if not we set it up straight away.
Google Analytics is a free tool that gives important metrics on your website.
For instance amongst other things you can get stats on:
For more information go to: http://www.google.com.au/analytics/ and you can also sign up there for a free account.
But check today that you have analytics setup on your site and that you have access to the reporting. It is NOT enough for a web designer to have setup Analytics on their account and that they only send you monthly reports. You should be able to and can access the whole reporting system when you want.
It is not complicated and provides excellent information.
It is the first step in improving your website presence to gain more visits, but also to look to make more conversions (ie... leads, enquiries, sales, calls...)
In Part 2, we will look at Keywords and what you should be focusing on and how to find the best to target.
